Back in 2016, RockShox introduced the Torque Cap standard to improve front end stiffness. It also makes installation of the wheel easier, as it lines up the centre of the hub with the fork, so the thru-axle can pass through smoothly.
To switch over to Torque Caps, they can be purchased here. We've also put together this helpful guide for swapping out the end caps on each compatible mountain bike wheelset. The process varies slightly between the wheelsets, so we have split this guide up accordingly.
XC Wide / Race XC Wide / Trail Wide V2 / Enduro Wide V2 / All-Mountain Carbon H_Impact / Proven Carbon Race Enduro / Proven Carbon Race XC (6 Bolt)
The end caps on these wheels are push fit, and so can simply be removed and installed tool-free, by pulling and pushing by hand.
- Remove existing 15mm end caps from both drive and non-drive sides of the hub.
- Fit the supplied E28 end caps to both side, making sure they click into place.
Trail Wide V2 / Proven Carbon Race XC (Centre-Lock)
The end caps on our MTB centre-lock wheels are push fit, and so simply can be removed and installed tool free by pulling and pushing by hand. You will require a Shimano External Bottom Bracket Tool or Lock Ring Tool for the lock rings supplied with your wheels.
- Remove the drive side end cap and replace with E28.
- Remove the non-drive side end cap and replace with E01.
- Fit the centre lock disc or 6 bolt adapter and 6 bolt disc, tightening up the lock ring to a torque of 40Nm.
- Fit supplied E30 adapter over the E01 and centre lock ring.
TrailWide (V1 Pre-May 2021)
The end caps on these wheels are push fit, but to remove the locking ring you may need a 15mm thru-axle or item of the same diameter.
- Pop off the retaining ring and end cap on both sides of the hub. You can use a thru-axle or something of that diameter to partially insert into the end cap and use as a lever.
- Once removed, put the 15mm endcap back in place, and fit supplied Torque Cap over the end cap on both sides.
Enduro Wide (V1 Pre-May 2021)
The end caps on these wheels are push fit, but to remove the lock ring you may need a 15mm thru-axle or item of the same diameter.
- Pop off the retaining ring and end cap on both sides of the hub. You can use a thru-axle or something of that diameter to partially insert into the end cap and use as a lever.
- Once removed, insert the supplied Torque Cap cylinder into the hub and bearings.
