Water Ingress Into Rims

Modified on Fri, 20 Jun at 3:50 PM

Unfortunately, water ingress is something that will occur with carbon wheels that are used in the wet. We use nipple washers on our carbon wheels to spread the force exerted on the rim by the spokes during riding, giving stronger and more durable wheels. The seal at the rim is not as tight as a build without washers and water can pass through when the rim is immersed or water runs down the spokes.

This is common with most carbon wheels and is not something that is unique to Hunt. The easiest way to remove the water from the rim is to loosen off the lock nut around the valve and shake the water out or leave the wheels standing in a warm room for a day or so.

Failing that, remove the tyre and rimtape and allow the water to egress from the spoke holes. Then dry the rim bed and re-tape your rim with existing tape or fresh rim-tape.
